This Date In Flyers History...May 6
May 6, 1976...Flyers Defeat Boston, 6-3

Nine of Reggie Leach's record 19 goals were scored against Boston in the 1976 Semifinals.

On this date in 1976, the Flyers defeated the Boston Bruins at the Spectrum, 6-3, in Game Five of their Semifinals series.

The Flyers'' Reggie Leach opened the scoring in the game with a goal at 5:45 of the first period to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

Boston''s Gregg Sheppard tied the score at 1-1 with a goal at 0:59 seconds of the second period. Leach would break the game wide open with a natural hat trick in the second period. He scored a goal at 2:02, 8:51 and 17:09 to send the Flyers into the second intermission with a 4-1 lead.

Don Marcotte would cut the Flyers'' lead to two goals, 4-2, with a goal at 6:09 of the third period, but Leach would respond with his fifth goal of the game at 8:07 to secure the Flyers'' victory.

Larry Goodenough would score the Flyers'' final goal of the game at 17:13, before Andre Savard would score a goal for Boston to make the final score 6-3.

Leach''s five-goal game was only the fourth five-goal game in NHL playoff history. With his five goals in the game, Leach had now recorded a goal in nine consecutive playoff games, a new NHL record (he would increase the record to 10 games before it would end). Leach had posted nine goals in the five games of the series against Boston, the second most in one series in NHL history.

With the win, the Flyers won the series, four games to one, and advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the third consecutive season.
