April 26, 1997...Flyers Defeat Penguins, 6-3

On this date in 1997, the Flyers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins at the CoreStates Center, 6-3, in Game Five of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series.

The Flyers trailed 2-1 as Pittsburgh went on their second power play attempt of the first period due to Petr Svoboda's slashing penalty, called at 16:50. The Penguins had scored a goal on their first power play attempt. Forty eight seconds into the power play, Rod Brind'Amour scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game at 2-2. Brind'Amour would score again at 18:32 of the first period to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead. Brind'Amour's two shorthanded goals tied the NHL record for most shorthanded goals by a player in one period and in one playoff game.
