On this date in 1996, the Flyers defeated the Lightning in Tampa, 4-1, in Game Four of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series.
The Flyers took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by John LeClair and Joel Otto. Tampa Bay's Petr Klima scored a power play goal in the second period to cut the Flyers' lead to one goal, 2-1. Dale Hawerchuk scored a goal at 16:55 of the second period to make the score 3-1 and LeClair scored his second power play goal of the game to make the final score 4-1.
The win evened the series at two games each. The Flyers would win the next two games to take the series, four games to two.
The attendance for the game at the Thunderdome of 28,183 set a new NHL record.
