On this date in 1997, the CoreStates Center hosted a unique hockey doubleheader. At 1:00 p.m., the Phantoms hosted the Baltimore Bandits in Game One of their Calder Cup Playoff series, the Phantoms' first ever playoff game. The Phantoms defeated the Bandits, 4-2.
At 7:30 p.m., the Flyers hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game Two of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series. The Flyers defeated the Penguins, 3-2, in front of 19,812 fans, the largest crowd ever to attend a Flyers game at the time.
