March 5, 1985...Flyers Defeat NY Islanders, 5-4
On this date in 1985, the Flyers defeated the Islanders in New York, 5-4 in overtime.
Left wing Brian Propp scored the first three Flyers goals as the Flyers led 3-1 entering the third period. The Islanders scored the first two goals of the third period to tie the score at 3-3. Lindsay Carson scored a goal with less than two minutes to play to give the Flyers a 4-3 lead. The Islanders' Mike Bossy responded by scoring his second goal of the game at 19:03 of the third period to tie the score at 4-4.
Dave Poulin would score a goal on the only shot of overtime at 2:18 to give the Flyers the 5-4 win.
The win was the Flyers' first win in an 11-game winning streak and was the start of a streak which saw the Flyers post a 16-1-0 record in their final 17 games of the regular season.
