The Flyers jumped out to a 2-0 second-period lead on goals by Darryl Sittler and Brian Propp. Minnesota scored the next three goals of the game and led 3-2 with under three minutes to play in the contest. Propp scored his second goal of the game at 17:45 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3.
After the game, the Flyers announced that they had traded Paul Holmgren to the North Stars in exchange for the rights to Paul Guay and a third round pick in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft.
Holmgren left as the Flyers' all-time leader in penalty minutes with 1,600 penalty minutes in 500 regular season games. In parts of nine seasons with the Flyers (1975-76 to 1983-84), Holmgren recorded 138 goals and 171 assists for 309 points (22nd on the Flyers' All-Time Points List).
