February 22, 1993...Fedyk Is Better Late Than NeverOn this date in 1993, the Flyers and Detroit Red Wings skated to a 5-5 tie in a neutral-site game held in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Flyers' Mark Recchi opened the scoring at 3:59 of the first period to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Detroit responded by scoring the next three goals of the game to build a 3-1 second-period lead. Goals by Eric Lindros and Greg Paslawski tied the game at 3-3 as the teams enter the second intermission. The Red Wings scored two late third-period goals to lead 5-3 with under three minutes to play in the game. Recchi scored again at 17:18 to make the score 5-4. With their goaltender pulled from the ice for the extra skater, left wing Brent Fedyk scored at 19:59.2 of the third period to tie the score at 5-5. Fedyk's goal set a team record for scoring a goal with the least time remaining in a game (0.8 seconds). His record would be broken by Tony Amonte who scored a goal at Anaheim on October 22, 2003, with 0.6 seconds left to play.
