February 13, 1973...MacLeish Leads Flyers to 8-2 Win Against IslandersOn this date in 1973, Rick MacLeish scored four goals in the Flyers' 8-2 win against the New York Islanders at the Spectrum.
The game opened with the Islanders taking a 2-0 first-period lead, before MacLeish scored the first Flyers goal of game at 6:30 of the second period. He would score his second goal of the game just 27 seconds later (6:57). Both goals were scored while the Flyers were on the power play.
The Flyers scored the final eight goals of the game, including five in the second period (by MacLeish - 3, Jean Potvin and Don Saleski) and three in the third period (by Bill Barber, MacLeish and Potvin).
MacLeish''s four goals set a new team record for most goals in a game and his two goals scored 27 seconds apart would be a new team record for fastest two goals by one player. His three second-period goals tied the team record for most goals by a player in one period.
