February 10, 1983...Flyers Defeat Blues, 5-2
On this date in 1983, the Flyers defeated the St. Louis Blues at the Spectrum, 5-2. The Flyers raced out to a 4-0 first-period lead on goals by right wing Ray Allison, left wing Bill Barber, center Ron Flockhart and defenseman Miroslav Dvorak. Ilkka Sinisalo closed out the scoring in the game to make the final score, 5-2.
For the Flyers, the win would be the last game of a nine-game undefeated streak (8-0-1) and of a streak which saw the team go undefeated in 21 of 22 games (19-1-2). The Flyers would lose to the Los Angeles Kings, 5-4, three days later.
For Dvorak, it was the first goal of his NHL career. The Czechoslovakia native would play three seasons for the Flyers, 1982-83 through 1984-85, after being selected at age 30 by the Flyers in the third round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. He would appear in 193 regular season games for the Flyers, recording 11 goals and 74 assists for 85 points and 51 penalty minutes. He was awarded the Barry Ashbee Trophy as the most outstanding Flyers defenseman for the 1983-84 season.
