Flyers loan Laughton to OHL's Oshawa

Club recalls forward Kris Newbury from Adirondack

The Philadelphia Flyers have loaned 6-1, 194 lb. center Scott Laughton to the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League and recalled 5-11, 205-lb center Kris Newbury from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Laughton, 19 (5/30/1994), appeared in five preseason games for the Flyers during this year’s training camp. He appeared in five games for the Flyers at the start of the 2012-13 regular season before returning to Oshawa, and went on to post 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points in 49 games for the Generals. In 176 career games with Oshawa over three seasons, Laughton has scored 56 goals and added 76 assists for 132 points, along with 231 PIM. Laughton was selected by the Flyers in the first round (20th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Newbury, 31 (2/19/1982), posted an assist and nine PIM in two preseason games for the Flyers before being loaned to the Phantoms, where he recorded two assists over the course of two preseason games. As a member of the New York Rangers organization last season, Newbury appeared in 70 games for the Rangers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Connecticut Whale, scoring 20 goals and adding 42 assists for 62 points along with 127 PIM. He also posted one assist and nine PIM in six games for the Rangers last season.

Newbury has four goals and five assists for nine points over 72 career NHL games with the Rangers, Detroit, and Toronto, while picking up 122 goals and 254 assists for 376 points, along with 1,205 PIM, in 529 career American Hockey League games. He was acquired by the Flyers from the Rangers in exchange for D Danny Syvret on July 1, 2013.
