1. FOUR IN THREE
Tonight is the fourth Flyers preseason game in the last three days thanks to the team's first ever "split squad" game in which they played twice in the same night… Both games went to a shootout with the Flyers posting a come from behind 3-2 win at Toronto in a seven-round shootout in which Tye McGinn scored the decisive goal and Cal Heeter backstopped the Flyers to his first win in his first preseason appearance (stopping 21 of 23 shots & 4-of-7 shooters)… Back at the Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers dropped a 4-3 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals… All three Flyers preseason games have been decided by one goal.
2. A LOOK AT SCORING
The Flyers have had eight different players score all eight of their goals so far in the preseason… Six players lead the Flyers in scoring with two points… Jason Akeson and Vincent Lecavalier have perfect shooting percentage, scoring on their only shot in the preseason… Jakub Voracek leads the team in shots on goal (7), while defenseman Erik Gustafsson is second (6)… Oliver Lauridsen leads the team in penalty minutes with 10 PIM in two games.
3. THIS, THAT & THE OTHER
Steve Mason will get the start in net tonight for the Flyers… The Flyers are one of three teams to have played three preseason games thus far (Phoenix & Calgary) and after tonight will be one of two teams (Calgary) to have played four preseason games… Following tonight's game, the Flyers will have six days off of game action as they resume their seven-game preseason schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 24… The team will travel to Lake Placid, NY to resume training camp during that break.
4. Player to watch FLYERS: Sean Couturier - (C) #14
Couturier had an impressive debut to the preseason, factoring into two of the three Flyers goals with two assists in the Flyers' shootout loss to the Capitals last night… Couturier recorded over 23 minutes of ice-time vs. Washington last night (23:03), the most of any Flyers forward… Dating back to his only preseason with the Flyers in 2011, Couturier now has six points (1g-5a) in seven career preseason games in Orange & Black.
5. Player to watch RANGERS: Dominic Moore - (C) #28
Moore posted the Rangers lone goal in their only game of the preseason, a 2-1 loss to the Devils last night… Monday's preseason game against the Devils was Moore's first game action in over a year as the veteran center did not play in the 2012-13 season for personal reasons… Moore has appeared in over 500 games in the NHL (530), posting 185 points (67g-118a) for nine different teams - he was originally drafted by the Rangers in 2000 (3rd rd: 95th overall) and made his NHL debut with the Blueshirts in 2003 after a four-year career at Harvard University.
"It's a grind. The pace is that much better than in juniors and you have to adapt as best as you can. I'm just trying to get my feet wet here and learn as much as I can."
