The Portland Pirates have surged to the top of their division by winning six of their last seven games, which included a six-game winning streak before their most recent loss before the holiday break… The Pirates own a 9-2-1-1 record in one-goal games and five of their last six victories have come by a one-goal margin.
4. Player to watch PHANTOMS: Eric Wellwood
After a slow start to the season, Wellwood is starting to put up numbers… He has three goals in his last four games, while firing 12 shots on goal in his last five… Wellwood has eight points (4G-4A) in 25 games so far this season.
5. Player to watch PIRATES: Andy Miele
Miele is currently on a four-game goal-scoring streak in which he has five points (4G-1A)… He posted a goal and an assist in his last meeting with the Phantoms… Miele is also tied for second on the team in scoring with 23 points (9G-14A)… The undrafted forward is in his second pro season after four seasons at Miami University in Ohio… Miele led the Pirates in his rookie season with 38 assists and 54 points, while also appearing in seven games with the Phoenix Coyotes.
