INJURY UPDATE; TROPHY ODDS; SCHEDULE CHANGE

PHILADELPHIA – Marc-Andre Bourdon’s comeback from a concussion has been delayed again.

Bourdon was originally scheduled to skate with the second session group but didn’t. General manager Paul Holmgren said Bourdon is “still not ready to take part in practice” and remains “day-to-day.”

I ran into Bourdon after practice was completed for the day and he said he doesn’t think he’s ready to skate with the group yet, but said he will still skate on his own.

He said he’s not sure when he will be ready.

It’s a tough call for Bourdon as to when to truly test his body in an actual practice. He has been skating for months and looks good when he’s on the ice. He even partook in several of the informal practices with Flyers teammates, but even those weren’t ramped up to the level of an actual Flyers practice, which could be what’s holding him back from attempting to leap the final hurdle in his recovery.

If Bourdon can’t get back on the ice with his teammates during camp, he would be a candidate to be placed on the long-term injury list along with Chris Pronger.

Without Bourdon, the Flyers have eight defensemen in camp on one-way contracts and Hal Gill on a professional tryout contract.

Teams usually carry seven defensemen on their roster at one time.

Claude Giroux actually participated with the second group on this first day of training camp despite an expectation that he would have to miss some time while recovering from offseason surgery on his index finger to repair some severed tendons.

Giroux wasn’t a full participant, but did all of the skating drills. He was still ginger when it came to make plays with the puck on his stick, but he is certainly further along than originally anticipated.

Giroux even said that he would likely play a couple preseason games.

Mark Alt, who suffered a concussion n the rookie game in Washington Monday, did not participate in practice, although he did do some off ice (dry land) work.

The defensive prospect will be re-tested tomorrow before a determination is made on the expected length of his recovery.

Alt is also being considered day-to-day, but the odds of him returning to the ice Friday would have to be considered long.

Prop bets are always fun and Bovada.LV, one of the big online sports books based in Las Vegas, has set the odds on each of the top trophies in the NHL.

Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby is the favorite to win the Hart Trophy as league MVP with odds of 3-1. The highest-ranking Flyer is, of course, Claude Giroux, who is tied with Vancouver’s Henrik Sedin for the seventh-best odds to winning the trophy at 16-1.

Ottawa defenseman Erik Karlsson is the 4-1 favorite for the Norris Trophy as the league’s top blue liner. Flyers defenseman Mark Streit did make the list, coming in as the No. 13 favorite at 22-1.

Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers is the favorite to win the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the top goaltender in the league. His odds are 4-1. Neither Steve Mason nor Ray Emery made the list.

………………………………………………………………

The practice schedule for Friday has changed. Start times for each of the practice sessions have been moved up 30 minutes to accommodate the taping of Comcast SportsNet’s “Meet the Flyers” show at Xfinity Live! Beginning at 2 p.m.

As such, the Flyers will take the ice for 90 minute sessions at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and Noon.

Doors to the Wells Fargo Center will open at 7:30 a.m. Admission and parking are free. The FanFest activities at Xfinity Live! Will begin at 8 a.m.
