Training Camp News and Notes as Day 2 gets ready to begin.

A few quick hitters as the Flyers begin Day 2 of a six-day training camp:

- Chris Pronger is here. He is in for his physical. He will not be cleared as his post-concussion problems persist. He will be placed on long-term injured reserve Friday. I do not expect him to speak publicly, but you never know with Pronger.

- Recently acquired goalie Brian Boucher will be placed on waivers today. General manager Paul Holmgren feels Boucher has a good chance of clearing waivers because all teams have at least two healthy goalies today. If he had Boucher in camp for a few days and another goalie in the league got hurt, the Flyers could conceivably lose Boucher on waivers as his cap hit ($950,000) is not prohibitive. Once Boucher clears, he will be assigned to the Phantoms.

- Continuing on the Boucher story, once he arrives with the Phantoms he will be joining a tandem already in place consisting of Scott Munroe and Cal Heeter. Holmgren said that for the time being the Phantoms would carry three goalies. “It’s not an ideal situation but we’ll deal with it,” Holmgren said. “It allows us to have an NHL-caliber goalie in the organization to jump in if we need him to do so. We’ll figure it out eventually with the Phantoms, but for now we’ll live with three goalies down there.” If Boucher makes it to the Phantoms, the Flyers will have to sustain a cap hit of $50,000 to have Boucher in the minors as part of the rules laid out in the new CBA.

- Defenseman Erik Gustafsson now has a timetable for his return to the ice. Gustafsson, who suffered a nasty bone bruise in his foot while blocking a shot, hasn’t played in more than a month. Holmgren said that he’s two weeks away from getting back on the ice. As for fellow defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon, his timetable is still up in the air. He hasn’t played in two months as he deals with problems related to a concussion and he won’t see a doctor for another couple weeks.

- Danny Briere will visit the Flyers doctors for the first time today since injuring his wrist while playing in Germany during the lockout. A better timetable for Briere’s return will be laid out today, but he seems to think he will miss the first three-or-four games of the season.

- The other player acquired in the Boucher trade was University of Minnesota defenseman Mark Alt. Alt is a good NHL prospect and was a second round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2010. Reports are that Alt (6-2, 205) is a big, strong defenseman who can skate and has come into his own this season for the Golden Gophers. While Boucher is the headline on this trade now, Alt could be the bigger news down the road. Alt is also the son of former Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro lineman John Alt who played in the NFL from 1984-1996.
