PHILADELPHIA – New season. New attitude. New music.

You didn’t expect it to be any other way did you?

With the start of the 2013-14 campaign, the Flyers will have new warm up music, a new goal song and a new victory song in the locker room.

And apparently, the locker room DJ’s picking the music this year are none other than captain Claude Giroux and alternate captain Scott Hartnell.

For the warmups the start is familiar, as the team is sticking with Jay-Z and his Public Service Announcement.

But, from there, everything is new.

PHILADELPHIA – There was an optional morning skate for the Flyers today before their season opener against Toronto.

While a handful of players who are in the lineup tonight took part, there were three who stayed on the ice a bit longer – because they are expected to be healthy scratches tonight.

The two defensemen weren’t much of a surprise – Erik Gustafsson and Hal Gill appear to be the No. 7 and No. 8 defensemen on the roster for now.

The forward though, may have been a bit more of an unexpected sight – Scott Laughton.

VOORHEES, N.J. – When the Flyers released their opening night roster yesterday, it was noticeably light with only 21 players listed.

Teams are allowed to carry 23 players on their roster at any one time, so there appeared to be some certainty that they would make another roster move or two before opening night.

And that happened Tuesday.

The Flyers signed defenseman Hal Gill to a one-year contract worth $700,000, making him the eighth defenseman on the roster.

If there was any question at all as to whether the Flyers viewed Matt Read as part of their long-term core that was answered in resounding fashion late Friday.

The Flyers and Read agreed on a four-year contract extension that kicks in beginning next season.

PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers trimmed their training camp roster to 28 players today, creeping ever closer to the magic number of 23 for the start of the NHL season on Oct. 1.

There were a few surprises too, some that even made my recent prognostications seem way off base.

Let’s break it all down, shall we?

Currently remaining with the club are 17 forwards, 12 defensemen and three goalies.

PHILADELPHIA – It looks like the competition on the Flyers blue line just got a little stiffer.

On Tuesday the Flyers signed first round draft pick Samuel Morin to his entry-level contract.

Morin came into training camp with two goals – one to get this contract, and the second to make the team as an 18-year-old defenseman.

Well, consider it one down and one to go.

Anthony Stolarz played well in his two games in a Flyers jersey.

He played half the contest for the Flyers in their annual rookie game against the Washington Capitals and didn't allow a goal.

Then, on Sunday, he subbed in for starter Steve Mason and only allowed one goal in an entire period-plus against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The following is an interview conducted with Flyers Chairman Ed Snider today at the "Mett the Flyers" taping at XFinity Live!:

Flyers Chairman Ed Snider is more excited than most years in anticipation for the start of his team's season.

Q: First of all, can you talk about your impressions of the season moving forward, and what the team did in the offseason?

"Well, I think that picking up three outstanding players and giving up nothing was a tremendous coup for us. We already felt that we had a pretty good team, and now I feel that we have a much better team. I'm really very excited about the season."

Q: How long did the sting of last season linger for you?

"Until now. But now, I'm excited, because we're starting a new season, and it's going to be a great season."
